Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo.) gave the following statement after news that the Trump administration will not follow guidance that says that schools receiving Title IX funding cannot discriminate against transgender students.

“The Department of Education and Department of Justice give legal guidance to schools to protect from costly lawsuits and protect students.  Without this guidance schools will be subject to more costly lawsuits.  Transgender students, like all students, deserve access to a twenty-first century education,” said Polis.  “In undermining the safety of transgender students, the Trump administration's actions will also cost school districts money.”

Polis serves on the Committee on Education and the Workforce.  In addition, he is the lead Democrat on the Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education Subcommittee and is a member of the Higher Education and Workforce Development Subcommittee.
