Colorado Congressman Jared Polis (D-CO)—who represents winter sports Meccas of Keystone, Breckenridge, Winter Park, Arapahoe Basin, Loveland, Copper Mountain, and Vail—is teaming up with Teton Gravity Research, The North Face, and Cliff Bar to bring pro-snowboarding star Jeremy Jones and adventure sports filmmaker Steve Jones to Washington to highlight the dangers of climate change to the ski industry.
“The ski industry is the lifeblood of my district and climate change is already taking its toll,” said Polis. “These athletes are on the front lines of this crisis, watching snow, ice, and communities disappear all over the world. In sharing their story with Congress, they are sharing the stories of many communities, who are all desperately watching their way of life disappear with the warming planet.”
This Tuesday, January 26, Polis will host a special Hill screening of the documentary film “Generations,” with special guests Jeremy Jones (Pro-snowboarding star and eight-time “Big Mountain Rider of the Year”), Steve Jones (Adventure sports film pioneer and founder of “Ski Film” giant Teton Gravity Research), Elysa Hammond (Director of Environmental Stewardship for Cliff Bar), and Chris Steinkamp (Executive Director of Protect Our Winters). These ski industry leaders will meet with members of the House and Senate the following day to share their stories and discuss ways to mitigate the damage to the ski industry presented in the film.
“Generations”—an award winning short film produced by Teton Gravity Research, The North Face, and Cliff Bar—features incredible footage of professional skiing and snowboarding at its best, while exploring the immediate effects of climate change on individuals and communities. “Generations” humanizes and contextualizes the debate on climate change by exploring the intrinsic value of snow to people across generations and cultures.
Guests are asked to RSVP via email to PolisRSVP@mail.house.gov.
