Polis, Beyer press Trump administration for answers about family reunification
Rep. Jared Polis, D-Colo, Rep. Don Beyer, D-Va., and over 80 other members of Congress are demanding a meeting with several agencies to get answers about what is being done to reunify migrant children and parents. To date, over 2,000 migrant children remain separated, detained or in foster care all throughout the country.
In a letter written to the Dept. of Health and Human Services, Dept. of Homeland Security, Dept. of Justice, Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the members of Congress say, in part:
“The failure of these agencies to provide the public, parents that have been detained, attorneys representing detained children and adults and Congressional offices meaningful information is unacceptable. […] Therefore, we request that you schedule a member level briefing regarding the family separation crisis and that your agencies establish phone lines for Congressional offices to expedite case work related to the family separation policy.”
